What are 4D Scans?

3D scans are still pictures of the baby in three dimensions, whereas 4D scans are moving 3D images of the baby.  These videos show the outside of the unborn baby in amazing detail and are a world apart from the traditional black & white 2D images most people are familiar with.

The scans use the same technology as traditional 2D ultrasound scans but rather than taking a single image, they comprise multiple images processed very quickly in a powerful computer to create the 3D scan image.

Is ultrasound Safe?

I am pregnant with my first child. My doctor wants me to have an ultrasound in a few weeks. What happens during this test? Is it safe for my baby?  Ultrasound uses sound waves to create pictures of the fetus as it develops in the uterus. The ultrasound transducer, or probe, sends out high-pitched sound and then "listens" for the echoes that bounce back off the tissues in the body. A computer "translates" this information into ultrasound images, or sonograms, which can be seen on a video monitor.

Miracle baby born twice

It may sound unusual, but Macie Hope McCartney was born twice. The baby, who is now one month old, was returned to the womb after surgery, only to have a second arrival 2 months later, reports the MSNBC news channel.  Keri McCartney was 23 weeks into pregnancy when an ultrasound scan revealed the foetus had a non-cancerous tumour. It was the size of a grapefruit – and almost as big as the foetus itself.
